A 2025 randomized controlled trial led by researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Mbarara University in Uganda tested permethrin-treated baby wraps among infants aged 6â18 months in rural western Uganda and found that over six months 34 infants in the permethrin-wrap group tested positive for malaria versus 94 in the water-soaked-wrap control group, a reduction of about 65%.
