Kansas officer killed responding to domestic call

A Hays, Kansas police officer was shot and killed while responding to a domestic violence call late on Sept. 27, 2025. The suspect was also found dead at the scene; the Kansas Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation and police say no additional suspects are being sought.

  • On Sept. 27, 2025 at about 10:58 p.m., Hays Police responded to a domestic violence call in the 2200 block of Downing Street in Hays, Kansas.
  • A responding Hays police officer was shot, transported to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead; the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) has assumed responsibility for the investigation and officials report there are no additional suspects being sought.
