3-year-old finds live WWII grenade in Hartline yard

A 3-year-old boy in Hartline, Washington, discovered a live World War II–era hand grenade in his family's front yard and brought it inside; his parents called the Grant County Sheriff's Office at about 6:45 p.m., and the Washington State Patrol bomb squad determined the device was live and removed and safely disposed of it in a rural area north of town. No one was injured, and authorities said it's unknown how long the grenade had been in the yard or how it arrived there.
