Teen charged with murder in New Jersey hit‑and‑run

A 17‑year‑old male from Garwood, New Jersey was charged with two counts of first‑degree murder after prosecutors say he struck and killed two teenage girls riding an electric bike on Monday at about 5:26 p.m. in Union County. The victims were identified as Maria Niotis and Isabella Salas; the suspect allegedly fled the scene in a 2021 black Jeep Compass and the Union County Prosecutor's Office filed the murder charges after the girls were pronounced dead at area hospitals.
