A powerful 6.9‑magnitude earthquake struck near Bogo city in Cebu province, Philippines, on Oct. 1, 2025, at about 10 p.m., collapsing homes and buildings and killing at least 69 people while injuring more than 200. Rescuers used backhoes, sniffer dogs and drones amid rain and damaged roads to search for survivors; the shallow 5‑km quake prompted a brief tsunami warning that was later lifted.
