Senate Democrats block GOP continuing resolution again

Senate Democrats on Wednesday blocked a Republican short-term funding bill for the third time, voting 53–45 to reject the GOP’s continuing resolution and leaving the federal government in a funding lapse. Senate Majority Leader John Thune said he will repeatedly bring the bill back to pressure Democrats to join, while Chuck Schumer and other Senate Democrats insisted they would not accept the measure without an agreement to extend expiring Affordable Care Act premium tax credits and other demands. The Senate planned to recess for Yom Kippur and reconvene Friday to continue votes.
