Iowa teen killed after mistaken for squirrel
Carson Ryan, 17, was shot and killed Saturday around 3 p.m. while squirrel hunting in rural Washington County outside Iowa City after a member of his hunting party apparently mistook him for a squirrel, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources said. Ryan was transported to the University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center, where he later died; the DNR and the Washington County sheriff’s office are investigating. Local schools and communities have mourned the loss and a GoFundMe for the family has raised more than $50,000.
