Judge Gives 14‑Day Deadline to Appoint Georgia Prosecutor

Fulton County Superior Judge Scott McAfee ordered on Oct. 3, 2025 that the Georgia election‑interference case against President Donald Trump and others will be dismissed in 14 days unless the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia appoints a new prosecutor and that attorney files an appearance or seeks an extension. The directive follows the Georgia Court of Appeals' disqualification of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis after defense challenges tied to her hiring of special prosecutor Nathan Wade. If no appointment is filed, the judge said he will issue a dismissal without prejudice for want of prosecution; even if a prosecutor is named, proceedings against a sitting president are unlikely to move forward while he holds office.
