CoolKicks Founder Arrested After $500K Nike Seizure

Adeel Shams, 34, founder of sneaker retailer CoolKicks, was arrested last week after Los Angeles police executed a search warrant at a CoolKicks warehouse in Santa Monica and recovered more than 2,100 pairs of Nike shoes and 150 cartons of Nike apparel—items investigators estimate are worth about $500,000. Shams was booked on suspicion of receiving stolen property and later released; the raid occurred while the company was livestreaming an auction on the WhatNot platform, and CoolKicks issued a statement saying it had purchased the goods in good faith. The investigation remains active and Shams is due in court later this month.
