Komeito quits Japan’s ruling coalition

Japan’s Komeito party ended its 26‑year alliance with the Liberal Democratic Party on Friday, citing political‑funding scandals and eroded public trust, and said it will not support newly elected LDP leader Sanae Takaichi for prime minister. The surprise split raises uncertainty over Takaichi’s parliamentary confirmation and briefly strengthened the yen to 152.41 per dollar before settling around 152.78.
