DHS said Friday that ICE has lodged immigration detainers for two 17‑year‑old Honduran nationals arrested after alleged gunfire on I‑295 near the Chickahominy River bridges east of Richmond, Virginia. The teens allegedly fled in a BMW, were pursued by a Hanover County deputy, crashed off Mechanicsville Turnpike, and were charged with multiple firearms offenses; DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said they were placed in a juvenile facility in Williamsburg. The announcement came hours after Virginia gubernatorial candidates Winsome Earle‑Sears and Abigail Spanberger sparred over immigration enforcement in their debate.
