U.S. launches Caribbean counter-narcotics joint task force
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced Friday that the Department of War is standing up a new counter-narcotics Joint Task Force in the Caribbean Sea under II Marine Expeditionary Force to synchronize and augment efforts across the Western Hemisphere. U.S. Southern Command, led by Admiral Alvin Holsey, said the JTF will enhance detection, disruption and dismantling of illicit trafficking networks in coordination with U.S. and partner nations. The move comes amid recent lethal maritime strikes on suspected drug-smuggling boats in the region.
