Dozens rescued; 3 unaccounted after Alaska storm sweeps homes

More than 30 people were rescued in western Alaska after remnants of Typhoon Halong struck, with at least 18 pulled from Kwigillingok and 16 from Kipnuk; local schools are sheltering roughly 300 people in Kwigillingok and about 600 in Kipnuk. Alaska DHS&EM spokesperson Jeremy Zidek and troopers said homes “floated away” and people may have been inside, search operations continued overnight amid secondhand reports of missing residents in Kipnuk, and three people remain unaccounted for as Gov. Mike Dunleavy vowed, “Every effort will be made to help those hit by this storm. Help is on the way.”
