Murdaugh banker Russell Laffitte gets 13 years

Former Palmetto State Bank CEO Russell Laffitte was sentenced Monday, Oct. 13, 2025, in South Carolina to 13 years in state prison for eight felony counts tied to financial crimes he committed with Alex Murdaugh, including misusing conservatorships to funnel more than $2 million. Eight years will run concurrent with his recent five‑year federal sentence; the remaining five years are suspended if he completes five years’ probation and 350 hours of community service, and he was ordered to pay about $3.56 million in restitution.
