Western Alaska floods sweep homes; 20 unaccounted
Remnants of Typhoon Halong brought hurricane‑force winds and catastrophic flooding to western Alaska on Sunday, pushing entire houses off foundations in Kipnuk and Kwigillingok and leaving up to 20 people possibly unaccounted for, officials said. Alaska activated up to 60 Guard and militia members, sheltered about 170 people in Kipnuk, and expanded a state disaster declaration as crews cleared debris‑strewn runways and responded to damage across Yukon‑Kuskokwim communities.
